Come experience Alaska with us, don’t just see it from the deck of a cruise ship. Our 5-day land journey begins in Fairbanks, more than 400 miles inland. From here we travel south into Denali National Park, the Alaska Wilderness, Talkeetna, Anchorage and end in Whittier where we board our ship for the cruise. We travel by sternwheeler riverboat, luxury coach, and train. Along the way we will see spectacular vistas; amazing wildlife, in the sky, on land and in the lakes and rivers; meet interesting people; gain a deeper understanding of how this vast and rugged wilderness affects its residents.
There is no other place in the United States like Alaska.
Depart Charlotte International Airport and arrive in Fairbanks, Alaska early evening, same day
Sunset occurs around 9:30 pm so there is plenty of time to look around or just simply rest.
Continue exploring this quaint town, adjusting to the weather and taking in the unique character of the region
This morning we will cruise along the Chena River on a sternwheeler riverboat. After disembarking we’ll enjoy a truly scenic drive on our motorcoach on our way to Denali National Park.
You will have a full day to experience one of America’s best national parks. This afternoon an included Natural History Tour introduces us to the wonderful world of animals, plants, and geography in the Alaskan Wilderness. (This tour is included in your cost; however, for an additional $45 you can add an extended tour which includes lunch and is far more inclusive of Denali; we give you this option because the extended tour is approximately 8 hours long in a converted school bus, and in some places over very rough terrain and toilet facilities are limited
This morning we will again board our motorcoach for still another scenic journey from Denali to the Mt. McKinley Wilderness Lodge. The views here are sensational and if weather permits, we’ll have a view of 20,310-foot-high, snow covered Mt. McKinley. The lodge has hiking paths, patio deck and other amenities you can enjoy.
today we drive to Talkeetna and walk through this typical Alaskan village; it doesn’t take long. From Talkeetna we travel of the Wilderness train all the way to Whittier where we board our cruise ship. If you have watched the TV program “Alaska: The Last Frontier” you may have seen this train featured.
Our adventure continues as we board our ship, get settled-in and enjoy a wonderful dinner before casting off and beginning our sea journey.
During our cruise, the cruise line will offer over 100 different shore excursions, at additional cost, and this can be confusing. We will help guide you through this process but keep in mind that weather could be the determining factor in what you do. You don’t want to spend $55 to take a train ride to the top of a mountain if there is heavy fog, which is a possibility, because there is absolutely nothing to see.
We will reach Hubbard Glacier by early afternoon. Our ship, weather permitting, will get within 1500 feet of the glacier where you will have spectacular views of the glacier and can hear the glacier calving. The ship makes a 360 degree turn so everyone gets a perfect view.
This morning we will arrive at Glacier Bay National Park at 9:15 AM; we depart at 7:30 PM
Skagway, Alaska; arrive 7:00 AM, depart 8:30 PM
Juneau, Alaska; the capital city of Alaska; arrive 6:30 AM depart 5:00 PM
Ketchikan, Alaska; arrive 10:00 AM, depart 6:00 PM. This is our last Alaska port and a great place to make purchases. We have found that it being the end of the cruising season and the last stop for most cruise ships, Ketchikan has the best bargains of any of our ports of call. You should keep in mind, however, that some ports of call have things that pertain only to that location and may not be available somewhere else
Today is a full day at sea as we continue to Vancouver. You will be fascinated as we continue through the inside passage and sail within a few hundred feet of shoreline covered in endless forest.
Our ship arrives in Vancouver, Canada early this morning; after a quick breakfast we will disembark, board our coach and drive to the Seattle Airport for our flight Home.
