Danube River Cruise

& Land Tour

Dates: September 27 – October 8, 2018

With 3 Extra Nights in Munich includes visits to Salzburg, Nuremburg & Nymphenburg Palace

An exciting, fun-filled 11 days and nights starting in Budapest and ending in Munich.

Our first 7 days and nights will be aboard our river boat as we cruise up the legendary Danube River stopping at small towns as well as touring Vienna and Budapest.  The next three days we will spend in Munich visiting local and nearby sites of interest, including Salzburg, Austria.

A Personal Comment from Ben Franklin, owner -

River cruising in Europe has become so popular that passenger bookings have nearly tripled over the last 5 years.   Linda and I have been on several river cruises with different cruise lines, and the truth is, they are all wonderful.  They all have beautiful, luxurious ships, very comfortable cabins, great food and on-board entertainment, courteous and helpful staff and crew, and they all visit about the same ports of call.  So, how do you decide which cruise to take.  Certainly, the itinerary and cost are two main factors.  Dream Tours researches all cruise lines looking for the best offer available, resulting in what is probably the best choice for a given cruise.  And, every bit as important, Dream Tours provides you the opportunity to be part of a small, friendly group of people seeking an enjoyable, comfortable, and safe travel experience.

We encourage you to compare our Danube River Cruise and Land Tour to any other Danube River and Land tour offered.   We work very hard to provide you with the best value possible.  Our tours provide more visits to places of interest for the money than anyone else we know about.  You may deviate from a tour anytime you want but we do not leave you with long periods of time on your own, with nothing to do.  Options are always there, without additional cost.

Board our plane in Charlotte for over- night flight to Budapest, changing planes in Munich

Arrive in Budapest and board your luxurious river cruise ship. This evening, meet your fellow travelers at the Welcome Dinner. Tonight, the ship will sail a special Illuminations Cruise past the capital’s glittering river front.

Your morning excursion includes sightseeing in the cities of Buda and Pest spread over both banks of the river. You will see famed Heroes’ Square and Castle Hill, home to Fisherman’s Bastion, Matthias Church and spectacular views of the Danube.

Wake up this morning in Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia. Enjoy a walking tour of the city’s top sights, including the Old Town Hall, Mirbach Palace and St. Martin’s Cathedral. Later, you will have some free time before the ship cruises to Vienna, the music capital of the world.

This morning, you will have a chance to savor the Baroque elegance of romantic Vienna through your choice of one of two different excursions. The first option is a panoramic tour of Vienna that guides you past the majestic Opera House, the former Imperial Palace of the Habsburg Emperors, Parliament, Town Hall and Vienna University. Afterwards, you will visit Vienna’s historic city center, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and see St. Stephen’s Cathedral, Graben and the world famous Spanish Riding School.

After reaching Weissenkirchen early in the morning, you’ll have a choice of several excursions. Partake in a walking tour in Weissenkirchen, along with a visit to the spectacular Benedictine Abbey in Melk; or go to Dürnstein, known for its Baroque Stiftskirche, its famed blue church tower and then go to the Melk Abbey. That evening be treated to an exclusive excursion to Castle Greinburg, Austria’s oldest residential castle which overlooks the Danube River. Tour the castle followed by a sparkling wine reception and folklore performance.

The ship arrives this morning in Linz where we will enjoy a walking tour of the second largest city in Austria Later,. We will take an excursion to the Czech town of Cesky Krumlov, a wonderfully preserved medieval town nestled in the hills just over the Austrian-Czech border, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Discover the 2,000-year-old city of Passau in one of three ways. Enjoy a walking tour and marvel at Gothic and Italian Baroque architecture and St. Stephen’s Cathedral. Guests looking for a more active morning can choose between a guided bike tour along the Danube River, or a guided hike up to the Veste Oberhaus Fortress. Later, the ship cruises to Vilshofen, where you will be treated to a festive Oktoberfest celebration with local beer, Bavarian folk music and dancing—an AmaWaterways exclusive

This morning, we disembark our ship in Vilshofen and begin our private coach ride through the Bavarian Alps on our way to Munich.  Along the way we will stop in Salzburg to tour this beautiful, small town where the Sound of Music was filmed and the home of Wolfgang Amidah Mozart.  Take a stroll through the same places you saw in one of your favorite movies “The Sound of Music. Thousands of fans come to this city every year to walk in the footsteps of the VonTrapp Family at the original shooting locations. Here you can take pictures of yourself in the Mirabell Gardens, at Maria’s Monastery or running through the Arbor.  From Salzburg we continue onto Munich where will check into our hotel.
